Progress

Well, I thought that I would have had more done than this ... but Scott is recovering from a bacterial walking-pneumonia, and hasn't been able to help with the bathroom at all - so, I've been tackling this end of the project (the not-so-fun, very dirty end) all by myself!

All of the tile around the shower is officially gone, gone from the room, gone from my house, gone from my life! Oh sweet victory! The floor tile followed it to never-never land, but some of the floor tile remains. You see, the idiot, I mean previous owner, who did the old installation glued the vanity and the toilet to the tile, and since I still need to use these fixtures until I'm ready to have the plumber come in and install the new products, they're stuck ... no pun intended.

The good news is, after about 30 minutes with some extremely coarse sandpaper and my sander, I saved myself $180 on new subfloor.

It needs another good sanding ... but as is it's completely smooth and ready for tile! But, even though I was proud of that work, while I had almost all of the floor pulled up, I couldn't help but to lay out the tile in a few patterns to see what exactly the space might look like as a whole. I know it's a rough idea, but what do you think?

We thought we had found a great piece for the bathroom, but after measuring the space, it won't work, an unfortunate ending. So we're still on the hunt for a sink base. So tomorrow I'm off to the antique stores to play find that dresser. I'll make sure to update you as soon as I come across "THE" one!

Patterns in Hex

You know, there are about 1,000 variations you can make with hexagon tile. Patterns and shapes I didn't even think existed.

With that thought, and the newly picked tile already dancing happily in my head ... I went out searching for tile inspiration for the new bathroom floor.

I really like the way they used the tile here to form a faux bath mat, or rug in the bathroom. Those colors are great too! I think that this is certainly achievable with the tile I bought, but I'm not so sure I like it. Enter the example:

Here we have the tile in black diamonds just in front of what will be the new shower area. It's hard to imagine it here - but I was hoping for something that would surround the entire room. Something more like this:

Now this makes me itch to put the tile in my kitchen too! Perhaps when we're all done with the bathroom I can twist Scott's arm. The example:

Now, I didn't include the little flourishes that are in the magnificent inspiration photo above, but I do like this look - it wraps around the entire room, and gives that custom look, don't you think?

Here we have a pattern in the center of the room, with a loose pattern around the edges, it's nice - but not me.

Here they have a pattern that I could live with ... still a loose pattern, but beautiful.

And then we have this banding with center display. This time it's a tight border, which made me thought perhaps I need a wider band of the black? Example:

Perhaps that's too much? I'd have to see it all layed out a little larger in the space. But the best treat of all, and the reason I saved it til the very end of this post, is this photo - which shows the exact same tile that we chose from daltile.
